History
In 2002, a grant-supported initiative called PEAK (Promoting Excellent Alternatives in Kansas Nursing Homes) was created using Medicaid funds to provide grants to nursing homes implementing "progressive, innovative models of care." This led to the creation of the coalition to be used to provide tools for culture change. The group did not function as a traditional coalition, and only recently have stakeholders convened to organize a culture change coalition modeled on other states.

Organizational Structure
The coalition is composed of providers, provider associations, educational entities, regulators and consumer interest groups.  These stakeholders form three workgroups Provider Outreach, Consumer Outreach and Education.  The workgroups meet together quarterly for planning and collaboration.  Individual workgroups meet as needed for the completion of assigned projects.   The group is in the process of forming a governing board.

Funding
The group currently operates on the generosity of group members.  Members contribute meeting space, time, supplies and other resources as needed.
