Over 400 direct care workers, consumers and supervisors from home and community-based services, assisted living communities and nursing homes gathered in Orlando, November 30 through December 2, 2005, to celebrate direct-care workers.

The educational conference was co-sponsored by the Pioneer Network and the Direct Care Alliance (DCA). The DCA’s mission is to improve the quality of care for consumers through the creation of higher quality jobs and a supportive workplace culture for direct-care paraprofessional workers.
This conference was designed and facilitated by national experts—including direct-care workers—with first-hand experience in culture change, coalition-building, leadership and skills development. Sponsors included the The Commonwealth Fund and the Paraprofessional Healthcare Institute.
